Melia was raised in Arizona and has been an avian wildlife rehabber since she was 10. She got her start as a vet technician working at a primate research colony followed by many years at a parrot sanctuary. She owns several parrots, a few exotic mammal species and two chihuahuas. Melia loves to hike Arizona and also plays the autoharp.
